The evening’s concert featured a spellbinding performance by violinist Nikolaj Znaider (Denmark) and pianist Andrey Gugnin (Netherlands), who together delivered an evening of deeply expressive and technically masterful interpretations of some of the most beloved works in the canon.

With a carefully curated programme that spanned three monumental works for violin and piano, including Johannes Brahms’s Sonata No. 1, Alexey Shor’s Sonata for Violin and Piano No. 1, and Ludwig van Beethoven’s Violin Sonata No. 9 ‘Kreutzer’, the evening stood as a testament to the power and range of the violin-piano duo repertoire.

Opening with Brahms’s poetic and lyrical first sonata, Znaider and Gugnin immediately established a captivating musical dialogue, balancing warm intimacy with sweeping romantic phrasing. The centrepiece of the evening was Alexey Shor’s Sonata No. 1, a contemporary work that has quickly become a favourite of both audiences and performers for its melodic clarity and emotional nuance.

The performance then concluded with Beethoven’s formidable 'Kreutzer' Sonata, a work known for its intensity, drama, and sheer technical demands. Znaider’s commanding presence and lyrical precision found a powerful match in Gugnin’s virtuosic playing, resulting in a performance that was as electrifying as it was refined.

The audience at Teatro Marrucino, which has now become the beating heart of the Accordi Musicali Festival, responded with rapturous applause and a standing ovation, celebrating not only the musicians’ brilliance but also the festival’s continued delivery of exceptional musical experiences night after night!
