Soloist Spotlight, Alexander Chaushian: A Deep Dive Into His Musical Legacy
The Accordi Musicali International Music Festival, a significant event in Italy's cultural calendar, continues to celebrate the beauty of classical music while paving the way for the stars of tomorrow, making a grand return to the charming region of Abruzzo, Italy, from July 31 to August 12, 2025.
Presenting a series of concerts encompassing both solo and duo recitals, chamber music performances, as well as orchestral collaborations, The Accordi Musicali International Music Festival, helmed by Composer-in-Residence Alexey Shor, will highlight soloists showcasing many of the maestro's harmonious works.
Among the standout virtuosos performing at the festival is none other than Alexander Chaushian, widely regarded as one of the finest cellists of his era, who has performed extensively throughout the world as a soloist with orchestras such as the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, the Academy of St Martin-in-the-Fields, The London Mozart Players, The Vienna Chamber Orchestra, Orchestre de la Suisse Romande, etc and has given highly acclaimed performances in such venues as London’s Wigmore Hall, Sala Verdi Milan, Konzerthaus Vienna, Suntory Hall Japan, Carnegie Hall New York, among many others.
After completing his initial studies in Armenia, Chaushian continued his education in the UK at the Yehudi Menuhin School, the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London, and then pursued advanced studies at the Hochschule für Musik Hanns Eisler in Berlin. Following his education, he won numerous prestigious prizes, including first place at the 12th International Tchaikovsky Competition in Moscow and the ARD Competition in Germany. As an alumnus of Young Concert Artists in New York, he has also toured extensively throughout the USA.
Currently, he serves as the Artistic Director of both the International Pharos Chamber Music Festival in Cyprus and the Yerevan Music Festival in Armenia, performing frequently at festivals worldwide as a soloist and in chamber music projects. The maestro enjoys regular chamber music relationships with notable artists such as Yuja Wang, Julia Fischer, Levon Chilingirian, Diemut Poppen, Emmanuel Pahud, and Ashley Wass and is also a member of the Tchaikovsky Trio with Pavel Vernikov and Konstantin Bogino.
His many concerts during this season, along with Accordi Musicali, include performances in France, Italy, Switzerland, Brazil, China and Japan.
