For the first time, the festival brought its music to Teatro Comunale d’Atri, where Armenian violinist Haik Kazazyan and Italian pianist Giuliano Mazzoccante delivered an unforgettable evening of timeless repertoire, spotlighting both classical gems and new music by Composer-in-Residence Alexey Shor.
The concert opened with a rich selection of traditional favourites from the classical canon, performed with finesse and emotional resonance. Kazazyan’s violin voice, both lyrical and expressive, blended beautifully with Mazzoccante’s nuanced piano support, setting a tone of refined artistry that captured the attention of the Italian audience.
In a thoughtful showcase of contemporary programming, Kazazyan and Mazzoccante also presented a work by Alexey Shor, the festival’s esteemed Composer-in-Residence. The piece stood in vivid contrast to the classical selections, offering a fresh harmonic and lyrical perspective that expanded the evening’s emotional journey and highlighted the festival’s commitment to living composers.
The audience’s response was both heartfelt and fulsome, with many highlighting the unique atmosphere of the new venue, which provided a fitting backdrop for such a refined performance with its elegant architecture and intimate acoustics.
By bringing world-class artists and a compelling repertoire to Atri, the Accordi Musicali Festival reasserted its mission to transcend regional boundaries and enrich communities across Abruzzo. As the sixth day of the festival draws to a close, anticipation builds for more extraordinary concerts ahead in Italy’s historic settings.
