Born in 1994, Edgar Moreau first came to international attention at a remarkably young age. He is a prizewinner of the 2009 Rostropovich Competition, the 2011 Tchaikovsky Competition, and the winner of the 2014 Young Concert Artists Award. His musical journey began early, studying with Philippe Muller at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique de Paris before continuing his training at the prestigious Kronberg Academy under Frans Helmerson. At just 11 years old, he made his orchestral debut with the Teatro Regio Orchestra in Turin, performing Dvořák’s Cello Concerto—an early sign of an extraordinary career in the making.
Today, Edgar Moreau is a regular presence on the world’s most prestigious stages. He has performed in iconic venues such as Carnegie Hall in New York, the Berlin Philharmonie, Vienna’s Musikverein and Konzerthaus, the Amsterdam Concertgebouw, Paris Philharmonie, Elbphilharmonie Hamburg, La Scala in Milan, Wigmore Hall in London, and Tokyo’s Suntory Hall, among many others. He is also a frequent guest at major international festivals including Verbier, Salzburg, Gstaad, Montreux, Edinburgh, Lugano, and the Martha Argerich Festival in Hamburg.
Moreau collaborates with some of the most distinguished conductors of our time, such as Gustavo Dudamel, Valery Gergiev, Marin Alsop, Myung-Whun Chung, Nathalie Stutzmann, Jakub Hrůša, and Andrés Orozco-Estrada, and performs with leading orchestras worldwide. These include the London Symphony Orchestra, New York Philharmonic, Los Angeles Philharmonic, Philadelphia Orchestra, Filarmonica della Scala, Orchestre de Paris, Mahler Chamber Orchestra, Munich Philharmonic, and Israel Philharmonic Orchestra, among many others.
A passionate chamber musician, Edgar Moreau regularly shares the stage with celebrated artists such as Martha Argerich, Yo-Yo Ma, Renaud Capuçon, Khatia Buniatishvili, Daniil Trifonov, and Lisa Batiashvili, as well as with members of his own family, including his sister Raphaëlle and brothers David and Jérémie.
His discography as an Erato/Warner Classics exclusive artist reflects both curiosity and versatility, from award-winning recordings like Giovincello (ECHO Klassik Award, 2016) to recent releases such as Transmission and the critically acclaimed A Rococo album (November 2024), featuring Tchaikovsky’s Rococo Variations. His recordings have consistently been praised for their musical insight and refined artistry.
Among numerous honors, Edgar Moreau has received two Victoires de la Musique Classique, was named ECHO Rising Star, and has been supported by leading cultural foundations. Since September 2023, he has also been appointed Professor of Cello at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique de Paris, confirming his role not only as a performer but also as an influential pedagogue.
At the Accordi Musicali Festival, audiences will have the rare opportunity to experience Edgar Moreau’s artistry up close—an artist who combines youthful intensity with profound musical understanding. Performing on a 1711 David Tecchler cello with a bow by Dominique Peccatte, Moreau’s presence at the festival underscores its commitment to excellence and its connection to the international classical music scene.
