Held in Atri and Chieti, the evening provided audiences with a final taste of the festival’s blend of international talent, beloved classics, and contemporary creativity.
The first concert, at 6:30pm in Atri’s Teatro Comunale, featured Ukrainian violinist Dmytro Udovychenko and Ukrainian-German pianist Milana Chernyavska. Their duo recital captivated audiences with a selection of cherished works from the classical canon alongside a striking contemporary composition by Composer-in-Residence Alexey Shor. With technical brilliance and emotional depth, the duo offered a performance that was both refined and heartfelt, reaffirming the power of chamber music to speak across time and tradition.
Later in the evening, attention turned to Chieti’s historic Teatro Marrucino, where UK pianist Marios Papadopoulos delivered a solo recital of extraordinary breadth at 9pm. His programme combined the profound legacy of Ludwig van Beethoven with the contemporary lyricism of Alexey Shor, creating a dialogue between past and present. Highlights included Beethoven’s Piano Sonata No. 27 in E minor, Op. 90, the iconic Piano Sonata No. 14 in C-sharp minor, Op. 27 No. 2 “Moonlight”, and the late masterpiece Piano Sonata No. 31 in A-flat major, Op. 110, each performed with clarity and expressive command. Shor’s Piano Sonata No. 2, meanwhile, offered a vibrant modern counterpoint, weaving seamlessly into the evening’s arc of musical exploration.
With these two concerts, the Accordi Musicali Festival brought its summer series to a triumphant close, having filled the theatres and historic venues of Abruzzo with world-class music over the past weeks. As the festival now looks ahead to its future events, this remarkable season leaves behind a rich memory of artistry, innovation, and international collaboration that has once again set the standard for musical excellence in the region!
